“Parkinson’s disease is the fastest growing neurological disease in the US, affecting over one million Americans. Although progress is being made in the search for a cure, people need help fighting the effects every single day. This need is the inspiration behind the Kirk Gibson Foundation for Parkinson’s.”

- Kirk Gibson

Our Mission

Our mission is to improve the quality of life for those living with Parkinson’s through the development and delivery of activity-based programs.

About the Foundation

While many resources are directed towards finding a cure, a major gap remains in providing the information, motivation and programs required for people with Parkinson’s to maintain their quality of life. Kirk’s Foundation fills this gap – by building greater awareness of the benefits of exercise and movement as part of an overall treatment plan.

What is Parkinson’s?

Parkinson’s is a degenerative neurological disorder caused by damaged nerve cells in parts of the brain that manage movement in the body.  People may begin experiencing problems with movement, tremors, stiffness in the limbs or trunk, or impaired balance.  As symptoms progress, people may eventually have difficulty walking, talking, or completing simple tasks.  Medications and treatments exist that can reduce the severity of the symptoms and possibly slow the progression of the disease.
